We will never add colourings, preservatives, parabens or phthalates, petroleum by-products, synthetic fragrance, alcohol, unnatural stabilisers – in fact, any of the usual skincare ‘nasties’.

why raw
When we heat any living substance in order to cook, pasteurise or process we are in effect altering or destroying its nutritional life-force. To cook is to denature, and irreparably damage the original molecular structure. Incidentally, the result of this thermochemical reaction has the potential to create countless detrimental compounds that can effect your long-term health. This also applies to the cooked foods we eat. Vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, carbohydrates, active-enzymes; in fact many fragile, naturally beneficial skin-nutrients that are available in the original living plants are radically reduced, if not destroyed, by heat. Cooking in excess of 47.7°C either degrades or depletes the vitality and nutritional content of both skin and health enhancing components.
Unlike so many other skincare manufacturers, Live Native will not cook away what nature has so effectively provided. After all, the genuine health benefits acquired from these living components are what every skincare range should sincerely promise and promote – without compromise.
All Live Native bioactive ingredients are sourced as raw, uncooked, unpolluted, vegan and organically produced. They are either cold-pressed or charcoal squeezed directly from fresh living botanicals at temperatures below 47.7°C or sun-dried minerals. We choose to use only the freshest and most exceptional remedial ingredients available like freshly-squeezed (food-grade) unpasteurised Aloe Vera (grown in Spain) or raw/cold-processed Ghanian Shea Butter – two of our favourite ingredients used in Live Native moisturisers, balms, cleansers and a few other products. Our organic Aloe Vera has not been powdered and then reconstituted with water, as is common practice in the skincare industry. The Shea Butter is TRULY RAW – the ground nuts are never toasted – and they are mashed in cold water to extract the butter prior to dehydration at 46°C.

no water, just aloe
If you are a label reader you probably noticed that a popular industry norm is to use a lot of water to bulk-out skincare products. As much as 80% of the overall ingredient content can be water. The truth is – water is a cheap, profitable and biologically inert bulking solution. Water in product does not absorb into your skin.

Water in product does not nourish, moisturise, anti-age or benefit your skin in any notable way, unless you actually drink it neat! If it did absorb, then we would all swell like a sea sponge every time we wash! What water does do… is evaporate! And evaporation causes dehydration, which results in dry skin. Whereas, fresh Aloe Vera gel contains long chain sugars (polysaccharides) that actually penetrate the lipid barrier of the skin to help retain water and thereby hydrate your skin.
